This can only be established by a medical professional. The best option is to call for or schedule a virtual consultation. A medical doctor on call will advise what options are available and nearest to you. In most circumstances you can be effectively assisted at your place of accommodation or home, however, there are times when a trip to the ER is unavoidable. Our doctors can perform onsite ECGs(Electrocardiograms), draw bloods, administer injections / medication / IV fluids and even attended to minor suturing / wound care. We will also assist in the process from referral to admission.
Almost all travel insurances cover our fees in full.
In many cases we work directly with your medical insurance company.
In most cases you will need to settle your account and our team will provide all the documentation to reclaim from your insurance. For local medical aids it will depend on which medical aid provider you use and plan you on. Most local SA medical aids will cover your consultation fee, or part thereof, however, they will most likely not cover the call out fee.
Our consultation fee start at around R700 per consult, and our call out fee is from R1800 for central Cape Town within a 20km radius. Please note, there will be additional charges for procedures done and consumable / stock used, extended consultations, as well as weekends/public holidays/ after hours. Fees are cover by most travel insurances. Payment will need to be settled up front and claimed back. The same applies with medical aid clients.
At AGMS your virtual consultation includes prescriptions and sick notes. Arranging for lab tests and other medical services are common place for our panel of expert physicians manning our virtual desk.
You cannot simply order a prescription online or via telephone. You will have to undertake some form of doctor’s consultation either in person or through a virtual means. AGMS has a set of highly trained medical doctors and support staff that can help you either telephonically, through a complete virtual consultation or even in person wherever you are staying.
A virtual doctor’s consultation is similar to that of an in person doctor’s visit, only the patient speaks to the doctor using their smartphone, tablet or PC. This realtime video conferencing has been made popular by the covid era but has seen stable growth over the last two decades not just in South Africa, but across the globe.
